Signs
As you can well imagine the codes, laws, rules and ordinances for signs in the city of Tucson is extensive!
I'm just trying to include here signage information that applies to the regular Joe in our residential community.

SIGNS
I am not absolutely certain about the sign laws so I am not going to tell folks what's okay regarding putting up signs.
One thing that I know is ILLEGAL are all those signs that say things like "We buy houses" or "Cash Paid for Diabetic Strips". They are not only ILLEGAL but they're UGLY to boot. Feel free to rip them down and if you can't reach it or it's been secured very well, contact Code Enforcement and they'll get it down. |
Unfortunately, the city also frowns on putting up signs on telephone poles and streetlights. Is it "technically" illegal? I guess it is but WHO CARES???? If someone's lost their pet or is advertising their yard sale or some such thing, I don't mind them and I don't think most of us care either. I do, however, want to see them come down once the "event" is over. Lost pet signs can stay up as long as they're needed!
This is actually an area I'm peeved with the new Steering Committee about as they're not putting up any signs alerting residents to meetings or that they're bringing in community dumpsters. I'm actually in receipt of an email that states that they will follow the "letter of the law". I think that's an excuse because no one was anxious to take on the responsibility and costs of printing and then go out and put them up and TAKE THEM DOWN. I don't see how there could be a single soul in the neighborhood who would report them or be unhappy if flyers went up to alert us of meetings, special events, dumpsters, etc. and then came down after the event.
Residents in a community need a way to reach out to each other and short term flyers on poles is accepted everywhere even if it is "technically" prohibited. The ordinance wasn't meant to stop individuals and residents from communicating but to stop businesses from advertising wares and goods.

Political Signs
I'm having a little trouble locating the rules and regs regarding political signage but I am certain political signs can be placed on private property by the property owner.
There's also some allowances for politcal signs on pubic or city-owned property. What those are exactly, I'm not sure. THEY ALSO HAVE TO BE REMOVED IN A GIVEN TIME PERIOD FOLLOWING THE ELECTION Exactly what time limitations are, I don't know. You'll have to do your own research for that. |
March 2015: I want to send out a big THANK YOU to whoever is acting as a sign vigilante around mid-town Tucson!!! It was about six months ago I first noticed EVERY sign tacked on poles etc. all along Glenn heading towards Craycroft had it's contact number obliterated! Yay!!! I don't know quite when this began but I started taking note after that and noticed that many of these "I Buy Junk Cars" sign types were being rendered useless all over this area. Unfortunately, they seem to keep going up again and the cycle continues.
