This is simply a TERRIFIC project to assist landlords, property managers and even tenants to make their properties free of crime. The benefits are tremendous to everyone involved with the property and the entire neighborhood.
This is for properties with three or more untis but I'm sure whoever is currently running it in Tucson would be happy to assist and guide property owners or managers with concerns or questions they may have even if they only have a single or double unit. Click HERE for a link to the website with much more info. The Alvernon-Grant Iniative was started a number of years back by concerned neighborhood leaders surrounding the Alvernon-Grant intersection..
If you are concerned about crime, this is the meeting for you. You will learn how to recognize, report and prevent criminal activity. Although this was initially set up for the neighborhoods surrounding Alvernon/Grant, they have been generous enough to allow Cabrini residents to join in, participate and learn. There are usually at least two Tucson Police officers there to answer questions and assist. This is a monthly meeting held on the second Tuesday of each month at from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. conveniently at The Church of the Brethren, 2200 N. Dodge. That's just south of Grant on the east side of Dodge. |
victim of crime is a multi-step process and you're not going to find the definitive answer in a few short paragraphs here or anywhere else.
COMMON SENSE will be your biggest advocate. Be smart and use it. Tell the "bad" guys you're not interested AND the neighborhood is not interested by calling the police/911 when you see suspicious people and/or activity. If the neighborhood in GENERAL is vigilant about that making it undesirable because the police are on scene and/or patrolling our streets more often, the nasty boys will move on. The police won't just randomly choose our streets to patrol though -- WE need to alert them if there is suspicious activity or people! Don't be too generous with information with your neighbors. It usually isn't your neighbor who is the bad guy but your neighbor's friend who gleans information from them about you and your belongings and habits..
Do be on the generous side with your neighbors when it comes to looking out for each other. Even the bad guys don't want to be robbed or victims. Know each others cars and routines so you can notice if something is up. Don't be a lazy-ass with an attitude that reporting things doesn't do any good. Don't do stupid things like put the giant box your new 60" TV came in by the curb. It acts like a neon light screaming to the robbers that there's a brand spanking new TV to be had. Spend a few minutes inside and outside your home and look for potential problems. Do what you can to rectify them. Neighborhood Watch is your friend. Join it. It doesn't take but about one hour of your time once yearly. That's as much preaching as I'm going to do here. Libraries can be filled with all the information that can help prevent crime and criminal activity and you couldn't watch all the TV presentations in a lifetime. There's currently a big push on the term "Harden the Target" in Tucson and basically it means to do all the smart stuff of locking your windows and doors, closing your curtains at night, looking for potential easy-access points to your home and fixing them etc., Simply put, "Harden the Target" and make it more difficult for the bad guy to make you the victim and he'll move on to the easy target. |
